Montana: Governor's Summit on Food and Agriculture Held October 23-24

The Governor's Summit on Montana Food and Agriculture is held October 23-24, bringing together producers, food industry representatives and policy officials to discuss the future of Montana's agricultural and food economy. Agriculture is a pillar industry in Montana, with wheat, pulse crops and livestock among the state's signature products.
Earlier this month, Governor Greg Gianforte led a strategic mission to India and Sri Lanka with representatives of Montana's agriculture, higher education, critical minerals, manufacturing, photonics and quantum sectors to expand markets for Montana products. The Governor's Office said India purchased over $14 million in peas, lentils, chickpeas and commercial aircraft parts from Montana in 2025, and that Montana is the number one producer of chickpeas and lentils in the United States.
The summit agenda, with participation from the Montana Department of Agriculture and industry groups, covers agricultural markets, food processing and farm technology. The state also reminded residents that nominations for the 2026 Montana Governor's Veteran Commendation close October 28, with recipients to be announced on Veterans Day.
The Montana Department of Agriculture oversees promotion and regulation of the state's farm sector. State officials say expanding domestic and export markets and raising the value of Montana farm products are priorities of the state's agricultural policy.
