New Jersey: Governor Visits Cherry Hill High School: Statewide School Cell Phone Ban's Impact in Focus

Friday, October 23, 2026 · States · GSM News

In New Jersey, Governor Mikie Sherrill visited Cherry Hill High School East on October 22 to hear directly from students about the implementation and impact of the state's bell-to-bell restrictions on cell phones and other internet-enabled devices in K-12 schools.

Sherrill said the state will keep working with districts to implement the policies effectively and to learn from their experience. Dr. April Maxwell-Henley, president of the New Jersey PTA, said the association supports the ban because every child deserves a school environment where they can focus on learning, build meaningful relationships, and succeed academically, socially and emotionally, while stressing that parents, students and educators must have a voice in the process.

According to the Governor's Office, districts that adopted similar policies earlier have reported positive educational outcomes. School phone restrictions have been advanced in many states this year; New Jersey's approach limits devices for the full school day rather than class time alone.
