Nevada: Attorney General Challenges Governor on Fuel Prices: Calls for Joint Letter Seeking Federal Help

Friday, October 23, 2026 · States · GSM News

In Nevada, Attorney General Aaron Ford appeared at a Las Vegas Valley gas station on October 23 and publicly called on Governor Joe Lombardo to join him in signing a letter requesting federal assistance on high fuel prices, saying rising costs are straining Nevada families. Ford is challenging Lombardo in the governor's race, with the election set for November 3.

Lombardo has countered by pointing to his Fuel Resiliency Committee and a proposed sales tax holiday, and says he is working with a bipartisan group to reduce Nevada's reliance on fuel policies originating in California. Nevada's gasoline supply is closely tied to California refineries and pipelines, and pump prices are a persistent cost-of-living issue for voters in the state.

Early voting in Nevada began on October 17. In addition to the governorship, voters will decide races for lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general and several congressional seats, with fuel prices and affordability expected to remain central issues in the final stretch of the campaign.
