White House Unveils America First Seafood Strategy: Seafood.gov, Over $5 Billion in Guaranteed Loans and a Voluntary U.S. Caught Seafood Label

Washington — The White House said in a fact sheet on October 23 that the Trump Administration unveiled the America First Seafood Strategy and launched a new website, Seafood.gov, implementing a plan of action for the future of America's seafood industry.
The White House said the strategy recognizes U.S. fishermen as essential to America's economic strength, food security, coastal prosperity and national resilience. It said the strategy prioritizes rebuilding infrastructure by reducing regulatory barriers to expansion and modernization, encouraging investment in processing jobs such as those that provide the primary source of income to hundreds of rural Alaska communities.
The White House said the strategy identifies how the administration is helping restore the profitability of U.S. fishermen, especially Maine lobster fisheries, and protecting them from unfair competition, including by strengthening import certification and compliance, engaging in regulatory reform, pursuing partnerships with industry, and seeking expanded market access for American seafood abroad.
The new Seafood.gov is described as a one-stop destination for U.S. fishermen and consumers to access clear information about federal seafood initiatives and the science- and health-based reasons to choose American seafood. The White House said that, beginning today, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is proposing a voluntary U.S. Caught Seafood label so consumers in the United States and around the world can clearly identify seafood caught and harvested by American fishermen, and that the label is available for download on Seafood.gov.
The White House also said the President is making available more than $5 billion in guaranteed loans through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to expand American dominance in modernized meat and seafood processing.
On background, the White House said that in April 2025 President Trump signed an executive order restoring American seafood competitiveness through deregulation, combating unfair trade practices, enhancing domestic seafood production and exports, and cooperative research, and creating the America First Seafood Strategy. It said proclamations in April 2025, February 2026 and June 2026 restored commercial fishing access in all Marine National Monuments, restoring hundreds of thousands of square miles in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans to America's fishermen, and that in April 2026 the USDA launched its Office of Seafood. It said the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has used the Magnuson-Stevens Act and executive action to remove red tape, reverse decades-old closures and maximize harvest quotas.
