Make a Difference Day on October 24: St. Johns Housing Partnership Recruits Volunteers to Paint Homes and Build Wheelchair Ramps for Seniors, Veterans and Residents With Disabilities

October 24 is Make a Difference Day, a national day of volunteer service in the United States. The St. Johns Housing Partnership (SJHP), a nonprofit based in St. Augustine, Florida, marked the day with its 2026 Make a Difference Day project, enlisting volunteers to paint, landscape and build wheelchair ramps for elderly residents, veterans and people with disabilities in St. Johns County.
According to the organization's event listing, activities ran from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 24, with an 8 a.m. kickoff at the Evelyn Hamblen Center, 1 Christopher Street, St. Augustine. Volunteers could register online at SJHP.org or by calling (904) 824-0902, and the organization also accepted donations in support of the work.
Make a Difference Day has been observed on the fourth Saturday of October since 1992. It was created by USA Weekend magazine together with Points of Light, a nonprofit dedicated to volunteer service, and is one of the largest single days of community service in the United States, encouraging people to improve their communities through a day of hands-on help.
The St. Johns Housing Partnership provides home repairs and accessibility improvements for seniors, veterans and residents with disabilities in St. Johns County, and the event formed part of its annual volunteer program.
