Wisconsin Upsets No. 15 USC 24-7 at Camp Randall: Two First-Quarter Interceptions Set the Tone

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

Wisconsin upset No. 15 USC 24-7 on Saturday night, October 24, at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. USC, which entered 6-1, was visiting Camp Randall for the first time since 1965. Head coach Luke Fickell's Badgers bounced back from a 17-7 loss at UCLA at the Rose Bowl.

Wisconsin's defense set the tone in the first quarter. Quarterback Jayden Maiava was intercepted twice in the quarter: first when Javan Robinson tipped a pass and Bryce West intercepted it and returned it 23 yards to the USC 17, setting up a 33-yard field goal by Gavin Lahm, and then again by Cairo Skanes. USC's two early turnovers produced only three Wisconsin points, but the Badgers finished with zero turnovers to USC's two.

USC took a brief lead in the second quarter on a 14-play, 67-yard drive capped by Maiava's 4-yard touchdown pass to Taniela Tupou, making it 7-3. Wisconsin answered with a 75-yard drive finished by former USC running back Bryan Jackson II, whose first carry against his old team was a 5-yard touchdown run. Wisconsin led 10-7 at halftime, with running back Abu Sama III carrying 12 times for 60 yards in the first half.

Wisconsin controlled the second half. On a 10-play, 75-yard opening drive of the third quarter, quarterback Colton Joseph hit Chris Brooks Jr. for a 16-yard touchdown on fourth-and-2 to make it 17-7. Junior Poyser later blocked a 44-yard USC field goal, and early in the fourth quarter USC's 58-yard attempt after a delay-of-game penalty fell short. With 5:02 left, Ryan Schwendeman's 1-yard touchdown run capped a 13-play, 59-yard drive that consumed more than eight minutes, sealing the 24-7 final. Quarter scores were Wisconsin 3, 7, 7, 7 and USC 0, 7, 0, 0.

USC's offense was held in check throughout, gaining only 6 rushing yards through three quarters. Maiava was 10 of 17 for 90 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the first half. The loss was USC's second of the season.
