Follow-up: Iran's Pezeshkian Blames U.S. for Interim Deal Failure, Urges New Try

DUBAI — Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, in remarks broadcast on state television on Saturday, blamed the United States for the failure of an interim deal with Iran, but said there should be a new attempt at concluding it. "We were having negotiations, the cowards (Americans) messed everything up…I still think we should go and conclude it," Pezeshkian said.
His remarks came against a week of escalating U.S.-Iran tensions: a U.S. intelligence memorandum said Iranian actions targeting American personnel had reached an "advanced stage" and U.S. embassy staffing in several Middle Eastern countries had been adjusted; eight foreign ministers met in Istanbul on October 23 to oppose new military action against Iran; and U.S. President Donald Trump said the same day at a rally that the United States might launch "another little Epic Fury" operation. Reuters' Dubai newsroom report did not disclose the interim deal's terms or the timing and rounds of the negotiations Pezeshkian referred to.
