Rubio Publicly Urges Cubans Seeking Change to Partner With the CIA; Trump Says the US Will 'Take Care of Cuba' on Its Way Back From Iran

WASHINGTON — US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on October 23 publicly urged Cubans seeking "positive change" to partner with the Central Intelligence Agency. On the same day, President Donald Trump told a rally in Florida that the United States would "take care of Cuba" after dealing with Iran, and that he would send Rubio to "finish up the deal."
"To those who seek to create positive change in Cuba – now is the time," Rubio wrote on his official account, @SecRubio. "The disappointment of failed promises, corruption, and the privileged lives of only a few; seize this opportunity to create the change you desire through a discrete partnership with the CIA." The word appears as "discrete" in the post. Fox News noted that Rubio's message did not identify a specific operation or explain what such cooperation would involve. Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, has long advocated a hard line toward Havana.
Hours earlier, Trump told a rally in Fort Myers, Florida, that US warships returning from Iran would pass Cuba, with one stopping about 50 yards off the coast. "We'll take care of Cuba on our way back from Iran ... then we're going to send Marco Rubio in to finish up the deal," he told the crowd. Trump did not detail what "the deal" would entail, and did not say whether his remarks reflected an actual plan. Fox News placed Rubio's post after the rally; The Guardian noted that Rubio appeared to have written "discrete" in error for "discreet."
