Argentine Court Dismisses LIBRA Criminal Probe Into Milei; Ruling Not Yet Final

Argentine federal judge Marcelo Martínez de Giorgi ruled on October 23 to dismiss the criminal investigation into President Javier Milei and others over the LIBRA cryptocurrency affair. Prosecutor Eduardo Taiano had earlier asked for the case to be closed, and the judge found that the facts did not constitute a crime. The ruling is not yet final and remains open to appeal.
Eleven people were under investigation, including Milei, his sister Karina Milei, the presidency's secretary general, and project-linked figure Hayden Davis. Milei later wrote that the accusations against him had lasted "one year, eight months and nine days" and demanded that his accusers answer for false claims. On-chain analysis showed that eight wallets linked to the project team had cashed out about $107 million.
The affair began in February 2025, when Milei reposted the LIBRA token contract address on social media, saying it aimed to finance Argentine small businesses. The token's price then collapsed; Milei deleted the post and denied involvement, but the episode triggered a judicial investigation and congressional scrutiny.
