Princess Elisabeth of Belgium Turns 25 as Palace Releases New Portrait
Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, Duchess of Brabant and heir to the throne, turned 25 on October 25. The Royal Palace released a new black-and-white portrait by palace photographer Bas Bogaerts, showing the princess in a light sleeveless top, smiling at the camera. The palace gave no details of how she would spend the day.
Bpost issued a stamp bearing her likeness, and the National Bank released a commemorative gold coin with a face value of 12.50 euros, struck in a limited run of 2,500.
Born on October 25, 2001, Elisabeth is the eldest child of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde and has been first in line to the throne since 2013. She earned a bachelor's degree in History and Politics at Lincoln College, Oxford, completed a master's in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School in May 2026, and trained at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels. Belgian media report she has begun a sabbatical year as she prepares to take up royal duties.
