Giant Puppets Parade Through Galway as Macnas Marks 40 Years With "Fiáin"

The Macnas theatre company's giant puppet parade wound through Galway, Ireland, on October 25, starting at 5:30 p.m. This year's production, titled "Fiáin" (Irish for "wild"), marks 40 years of street performance by the company; the free parade lasted about one hour and 45 minutes.
The route left the University of Galway campus, passed the Galway Cathedral, crossed the Salmon Weir Bridge, wound through pedestrian streets including Shop Street, crossed O'Brien's Bridge and Dominick Street, and concluded at the Claddagh Fire Station.
The parade is the centrepiece of the Galway hub of Ireland's "Home of Halloween" programme, backed by Fáilte Ireland and running across seven hubs — Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Limerick, Longford and Westmeath, and Meath and Louth — through November 8. The Púca Festival in Meath and Louth runs October 29 to November 1, and Derry Halloween, described as Europe's largest Halloween gathering, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
