PAP Elects New Central Executive Committee as Wong Pledges Growth That Lifts All Singaporeans

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · World · GSM News

Singapore's People's Action Party held its Awards and Conference 2026 at Singapore Expo on October 25, with about 3,000 activists attending. Cadres elected the party's 39th Central Executive Committee: 12 members were voted in and two more co-opted, for a largely unchanged line-up of 14; the committee may co-opt up to four additional members after its first meeting.

Prime Minister and PAP Secretary-General Lawrence Wong said growth is not reaching every worker equally: lower-wage workers worry about keeping pace with rising costs, and those who lose jobs in their 40s and 50s worry about finding work again. "Our task is not just to keep the economy growing. It is to make sure that growth translates into better lives for all Singaporeans." He said the government has a full agenda for the term, tackling cost-of-living pressures, better jobs, and support across life stages from education to retirement, and warned against populism and divided politics.

Wong cited Fajar Shah Salim, 45, who spent over 20 years in food and beverage before losing his job as a restaurant manager early last year. As his family's sole breadwinner, he received about S$2,800 over two months through the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support Scheme, trained, and is now an IT operations specialist with ST Engineering. The elected CEC members are Lawrence Wong, Lee Hsien Loong, Desmond Lee, Chan Chun Sing, Masagos Zulkifli, K Shanmugam, Grace Fu, Chee Hong Tat, Edwin Tong, Indranee Rajah, Ong Ye Kung and Vivian Balakrishnan, with Tan See Leng and Zaqy Mohamad co-opted.
