Sweden's Government Offices Block ChatGPT and Claude From October 26, Keeping Copilot

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · World · GSM News

Sweden's Government Offices (Regeringskansliet), the administrative body supporting the prime minister and cabinet, will block access to the ChatGPT and Claude websites on staff work computers from Monday, October 26, public broadcaster Sveriges Radio's Ekot reported. Staff are to use approved SI services instead; Microsoft Copilot passed an internal security review, with its security settings raised afterwards.

Digitalisation director Mikael Wettercrantz wrote on the intranet that using SI services without a formal agreement can have consequences for information security, and that several examples of problematic use of open SI services had been seen. The offices said some staff will still be able to reach the ChatGPT and Claude models through Intric, an internal SI-assistant platform. The Government Offices had earlier restricted the Chinese service DeepSeek.

Ekot's survey found similar restrictions at the Swedish Tax Agency and the National Board of Institutional Care, with the Enforcement Authority weighing a decision. An internal audit at the Transport Administration this year found staff using about 10 different open SI services, including cases of sensitive information being entered and SI-generated answers being mishandled.
