CSU Faculty Union Launches Strike Authorization Vote Oct. 26 to Nov. 19 Covering 29,000 Faculty and Staff

The California Faculty Association (CFA), which represents 29,000 professors and other employees across the California State University (CSU) system, has launched a strike authorization vote running from October 26 through November 19. If a majority of members approve, union leadership would be authorized to call a strike.

Contract negotiations between CFA and CSU have lasted 16 months, and the union declared an impasse this summer. The union is seeking salary increases, changes to faculty workloads and job protections related to the use of super intelligence. On October 22, faculty and students from San José State University and other campuses rallied outside a CSU student success symposium in San Jose, calling for a fair contract and SI job protections.

CSU has recently reached tentative agreements with three other unions covering about 14,000 employees, including an 8% salary increase over two years plus one-time raises negotiated by each bargaining unit. Those agreements still require approval by union members and the CSU Board of Trustees.
