The Newsom administration announced on October 21 that California's College Corps program has expanded to 54 colleges and universities across the state. The program partners student fellows with nonprofits and campuses to serve local communities in exchange for tuition and living assistance.

Since the program began four years ago, more than 10,000 fellows have taken part. New partner institutions include UC Santa Barbara, Bakersfield College, CSU Northridge, Hartnell College, Long Beach City College, Monterey Peninsula College and Saddleback College. Participants can earn up to $10,000 for 450 hours of service; only full-time undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need are eligible.

Josh Fryday, director of the Governor's Office of Service and Community Engagement, said the campuses are building the next generation of civic leaders while meeting urgent local needs across the state.
