Knife-Wielding Man Surrenders After Nearly Hour-Long Standoff With Santa Barbara Deputies: Maurilio Carriedo, 40, Arrested

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office in California said on October 24 that at about 11:34 a.m. that day, deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Hollister Avenue, where they contacted a man armed with a knife. The man was uncooperative, fled to a horse corral at a nearby equestrian center, and waved the knife while refusing to surrender. After allied law enforcement agencies, a K9 team, and crisis negotiators responded, Maurilio Carriedo, 40, of Santa Barbara, surrendered to deputies at 12:28 p.m. and was taken into custody, ending a standoff of nearly an hour.
The Sheriff's Office said Carriedo will be booked at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail, and that charges and bail information were pending completion of the booking process. The release did not report any injuries to deputies, the suspect, or anyone else during the standoff.
According to the release, responding resources included sheriff's deputies, personnel from allied law enforcement agencies, a K9 team, and crisis negotiators. The incident began with a report of a domestic dispute at the apartment complex; the release did not describe the dispute in detail or state the man's relationship to anyone else involved.
