Imperio Recalls About 946 Pounds of Beef Jerky: FSIS Says Products Were Made Without Federal Inspection and Bore an Unauthorized USDA Mark

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on October 24 that Imperio Distribution LLC of Elgin, Illinois, is recalling about 946 pounds of ready-to-eat beef jerky products. FSIS said the products were produced without the benefit of federal inspection and were misbranded because of the unauthorized use of a USDA mark of inspection.
The recall covers three 2-ounce sealed-bag products — IMPERIO FUEGO BEEF JERKY (CARNE SECA), IMPERIO ORIGINAL BEEF JERKY (CARNE SECA) and IMPERIO LIMÓN BEEF JERKY (CARNE SECA) — packaged from January 2026 to October 2026. The inspection mark on the products was not the company's own: it was the unapproved use of another facility's mark, bearing establishment number "1885" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The products were distributed to retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin. The problem was discovered during FSIS surveillance activities.
FSIS said there have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury due to consumption of these products, and anyone concerned about an illness or injury should contact a healthcare provider. Food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria or other contaminants, and FSIS is concerned that some products may still be in consumers' refrigerators or pantries or at retailers.
FSIS urged consumers who purchased the products not to consume them; the products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
