Sunday, October 25, 2026 · California · GSM News

The San Diego City Council, in San Diego County, California, is set to consider a temporary moratorium on data centers on Tuesday morning, October 27: an agenda preview issued on October 23 by the Office of Council President Joe LaCava lists Item S401, a Temporary Moratorium on Data Center Development, Establishment, Intensification, and Expansion, as anticipated to be heard on Tuesday morning.

The council first meets on Monday, October 26, at 10 a.m. for a special session and a regular meeting. Under an updated schedule, the consent agenda will be heard at the Monday special session, while the data center moratorium moves to Tuesday morning. Monday's consent agenda carries 13 items, including declaring a continued state of emergency for pollution at the border, an appointment to the Community Forest Advisory Board, and an amendment to the conflict of interest code for the Engineering and Capital Projects Department.

Other major items include Item 200, two user fees to support the Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement — renaming the Citywide Minimum Wage Enforcement Fee as the Citywide Minimum Wage and Labor Standards Enforcement Fee and establishing a new Compliance System Usage Fee, each a Category I full cost-recovery fee under City Council Policy 100-05; Item 201, a proposal to overrule the Airport Land Use Commission's inconsistency determination on the MCAS Miramar compatibility plan, allowing child care centers as a limited use with a maximum 0.42 floor area ratio in the Transition Zone; and Item S400, the Fiscal Year 2026 Year-End Financial Performance Report, an informational item comparing unaudited year-end revenue and expenditure against third-quarter budget monitoring projections.

Meetings can be watched on cable TV channel 24 or AT&T channel 99, or streamed online through the city's website. The outcome of Item S401 is expected after the October 27 session.
