The Associated Press released its Week 9 college football Top 25 poll on October 25: the Miami Hurricanes held the No. 1 spot with 59 first-place votes and 1,735 points, followed by Ohio State with 10 first-place votes and 1,681 points, and Georgia at No. 3. Miami routed Pittsburgh 52-23 at home over the weekend to improve to 7-0. Nine Southeastern Conference teams made the poll, the most of any conference.

The top ten: 1. Miami, 2. Ohio State, 3. Georgia, 4. Indiana, 5. Notre Dame, 6. Utah, 7. UCLA, 8. BYU, 9. Kentucky, 10. Alabama. Ranks 11 through 25: Texas, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Wake Forest, LSU, Tennessee, Florida, Houston, SMU, Boise State, Northwestern, Arizona, Missouri, Oklahoma State and Wisconsin. Others receiving votes included Iowa (76), New Mexico (41), Cincinnati (11), Oregon State (10), South Carolina (8), Minnesota (7), USC (7), UTSA (1) and Virginia Tech (1).

Miami's hold on the top spot rests on an explosive offense: quarterback Darian Mensah went 31-of-37 for 387 yards and four touchdowns against Pittsburgh, while wide receiver Malachi Toney caught 16 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns. Miami visits North Carolina next week before a November 7 trip to Notre Dame; the teams last met in August 2025 at Hard Rock Stadium, a 27-24 Miami win. Ohio State was idle this week, and On3 reported the Buckeyes may have to navigate the rest of the season without injured quarterback Julian Sayin.

The biggest movement came at the bottom of the poll: Wisconsin beat USC by 17 points at home to enter the AP Top 25 at No. 25 for the first time since September 10, 2023, while USC fell out of the rankings with just seven votes. Alabama rose three spots to No. 10 after a 31-20 home win over Texas A&M, improving to 6-2 behind quarterback Keelon Russell's 300-plus passing yards and three touchdown throws; Alabama is idle next week before visiting LSU. BYU, ranked second a week ago, slipped to eighth.
