Musetti Beats Fritz 6-3, 6-4 to Win Lyon Title, His First ATP Crown in Four Years

LYON, France — Italian tennis player Lorenzo Musetti defeated No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz of the United States 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday, October 25, in the final of the Grand Prix Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes in Lyon, France. According to Reuters, it is Musetti's first ATP Tour title in four years and the third of his career.
Musetti, the No. 6 seed, did not face a single break point in the final and finished with just 11 unforced errors to Fritz's 28, playing a far cleaner match than his counterpart. Fritz was aiming for his 12th career ATP crown.
The title followed a hard route through the semifinals on Saturday, when Musetti saved four match points against compatriot and No. 1 seed Flavio Cobolli before winning 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 to reach the final.
According to Reuters, Musetti had already shown a return to form with a run to the quarterfinals at the most recent Australian Open and a place in the final of the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters, an ATP 1000 event. The Lyon trophy is his first tour title in four years.
