FREIBURG, Germany — Bayern Munich preserved their unbeaten start to the Bundesliga season with a 3-1 victory at SC Freiburg on Sunday, October 25, withstanding late pressure after an own goal gave the hosts hope, according to Reuters.

Bayern took the lead in the 17th minute at Europa-Park Stadion when central defender Dayot Upamecano sprinted forward through the middle on the counter-attack, latched on to a pass from Michael Olise and slotted the ball past keeper Mio Backhaus. Three minutes before the break, winger Serge Gnabry surged down the left channel and finished from a tight angle to make it 2-0. Freiburg had started the league season with four wins and a draw in their first five games before losing to Bayer Leverkusen.

Freiburg were thrown a lifeline in the 82nd minute when Tom Bischof turned a pass from Rihito Yamamoto into his own net, but Olise restored the two-goal advantage deep into stoppage time. Bayern are top of the table with 17 points from seven games, ahead of Borussia Dortmund on goal difference, while Freiburg are third on 13 points.

Earlier on Sunday, Hoffenheim cruised to a 3-0 home win over Leverkusen. Andrej Kramaric gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot in the 79th minute and Alexander Prass netted a second in the 89th, but Prass — booked on the stroke of half-time — was shown a second yellow card for removing his shirt to celebrate, before Max Moerstedt put the game beyond doubt with a third goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
