BARCELONA, Spain — Real Madrid beat FC Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou in the season's first El Clásico on Sunday, October 25, in La Liga's Matchday 10. Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring in the 41st minute, Raphinha equalized for Barcelona in the 61st, and Mbappé struck again in the 87th minute to win it. Barcelona's perfect start to the league season ended, and their lead at the top was cut from six points to three.

Madrid arrived short-handed: winger Vinícius Júnior was suspended and first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois missed out with flu, with Andriy Lunin starting in goal for José Mourinho's side. Hansi Flick's Barcelona had won every league game so far but lost 4-2 at Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.

In the 41st minute, Yan Diomande's cross from the left was partially cleared by Gerard Martín, the ball ricocheting in off Mbappé to give Madrid a 1-0 halftime lead; Diomande also hit the post and Lamine Yamal missed a one-on-one. Barcelona levelled in the 61st minute when a short corner ended with Pedri slipping a pass to Raphinha, whose shot went between Jude Bellingham's legs and past Lunin despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to it; three minutes later Lunin produced a big one-handed save from Martín's header. The winner came in the 87th minute: Bellingham's backheel released substitute Eduardo Camavinga, who beat his marker and squared for Mbappé to finish for his second goal of the night.

The match also served as a final head-to-head before the Ballon d'Or ceremony: Yamal and Mbappé both travel to London on October 26 for the award. Barcelona remain top despite their first league defeat of the season, with Madrid now three points behind.
