Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi: Renewed War Would Not Change Iran's Positions; Strait of Hormuz Will Not Return to Before

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · World · GSM News

TEHRAN — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on October 25 that Iran's policies would not change even if war with the United States and Israel resumed, and that the Strait of Hormuz would not return to its previous state. Speaking at an event in Tehran marking the opening of a documentation center named for the late diplomat Kamal Kharrazi, Araghchi said: "Today, talk of war is resurfacing again, but from now on, I am thinking about the post-war situation; whether war happens or not, our policies remain in place." He added that if there were any rationality, the other side would not try military action against Iran again, saying it had already tried twice and seen the results, and that another attempt would produce no different outcome.

On the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi said: "The Strait of Hormuz will not be the same as before the 40-day war." He said the shipping routes through the strait and the way the strait is managed would no longer be the same, and that achieving peace and stability required the region to move toward the complete absence of foreign forces. He called the conflict a turning point in the region's history, saying its security structures had been upended. The remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump recently said Washington might carry out another small-scale "Epic Fury" operation, a campaign that began on February 28; an April 8 ceasefire ended the most intense fighting, though sporadic exchanges continued around the Strait of Hormuz.

Araghchi also claimed that Iranian forces had destroyed more than 80 American aircraft and fighter jets in the conflict, nearly all of them hit by missiles on the ground. That claim comes from Iran's ISNA news agency's account of his remarks and is reported here only as his claim, not as an independently verified fact.
