Salvation Army Launches “Cartober” Vehicle Donation Campaign in Carson, California to Fund Rehabilitation Centers

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · Nonprofit · GSM News

The Salvation Army announced in Carson, California, on October 16, 2026, that it is taking part in Cartober, a month-long giving campaign that promotes vehicle donations: members of the public can donate unwanted vehicles, running or not, with the proceeds funding The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARCs).

The Salvation Army said the campaign is run in collaboration with Charitable Adult Rides and Services (CARS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Supporters can donate through Cars4Good.org; CARS handles all logistics, including vehicle pick-up and paperwork, at no cost to the donor. Vehicle donations may also be tax-deductible.

“We are excited to partner with CARS for the Cartober campaign. This initiative not only provides our supporters with a simple way to make a meaningful contribution, but it also helps ensure that The Salvation Army can continue to deliver life-changing services to those who need them most,” said Lt. Colonel Mark Nelson, Commander of The Salvation Army USA Western Territory Adult Rehabilitation Centers Command. “Every vehicle donated turns into vital funding for our Adult Rehabilitation Centers that offer hope and healing.” Howard Pearl, CEO of CARS, said: “Cartober is all about harnessing the power of vehicle donations to fuel the important work of our nonprofit partners. Your old car could be the key to new opportunities for those in need.”

According to The Salvation Army, its Adult Rehabilitation Centers have provided spiritual, emotional and social assistance to individuals and families in need for more than 150 years. The centers run a six-month, faith-based work therapy program for people struggling with issues including substance abuse, provided on a charitable basis, generally at no cost and with no insurance required. The Salvation Army said vehicle donations help ensure these programs continue to serve communities nationwide, serving all without discrimination. CARS partners with thousands of nonprofits and public media stations across the country to facilitate vehicle donations, raising millions of dollars annually.
