Robberies Target Chinese Nationals in Angola: One Reportedly Killed by an Employee, One Seriously Injured

A series of robberies in Angola in recent days has targeted Chinese nationals living and working in the country. According to published reports released on October 26, Chinese citizens have had cash robbed, one person was reportedly killed, allegedly by an employee, and another Chinese national was seriously injured.
The reports say nearly all criminal cases involving Chinese nationals are connected to cash and valuables: money or valuables exposed during storage, sale or transport can draw targeted robberies, and people close to the victims who know their routines and where valuables are kept can become part of a crime, including through inside-outside collusion.
As the year-end approaches, the country enters a peak season for public-security cases. The reports say Chinese businesses and personnel in Angola arrange for at least two Chinese staff members to be present when handling large amounts of cash or valuables, and seek police security when necessary.
