Icelandic Foreign Minister Gunnarsdóttir to Visit China from October 26 to 31 as China and Iceland Mark 55 Years of Diplomatic Relations

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on October 26 that Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, will visit China from October 26 to 31 at the invitation of Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China.
At the regular press conference the same day, spokesperson Guo Jiakun said China welcomes Foreign Minister Gunnarsdóttir's visit. China-Iceland relations have enjoyed sound development in recent years, Guo said, noting that in 2025, Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir came to China to attend the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women, during which President Xi Jinping met with her, and the two sides reached important consensus on strengthening exchanges and deepening cooperation in trade and economy, geothermal energy, culture and other fields.
This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Iceland, Guo said. China looks forward to having in-depth exchanges of views with Iceland on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern, so as to further consolidate mutual trust, advance cooperation and carry forward the friendship between the two countries.
