Indonesia: China and Indonesia Announce on October 26 the 'Sharp Blade-2026' Army Counter-Terrorism Joint Training, Focused on Mountain Joint Counter-Terrorism Rescue

According to a message released by the WeChat official account of China's Ministry of National Defense, from late October to early November, the Chinese and Indonesian militaries will hold the 'Sharp Blade-2026' army counter-terrorism joint training in Guangdong, with the news announced on October 26. The joint training, themed on mountain joint counter-terrorism rescue operations, will mainly cover training in mountain climbing, special driving, helicopter fast-roping, close-quarters assault and manned-unmanned coordination. This is the third time the two sides have held this series of joint training, which helps continuously deepen practical exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries and enhance their joint operational capabilities. Mountain counter-terrorism rescue places high demands on troops' physical fitness, terrain adaptation, coordinated command and equipment use: mountain climbing tests the mobility of individual soldiers and small teams, special driving involves vehicle use in complex terrain, helicopter fast-roping is a key means of rapid insertion and extraction, close-quarters assault requires precise handling in confined spaces, and manned-unmanned coordination reflects the new trend of unmanned equipment working with manned forces in modern counter-terrorism operations. The Chinese and Indonesian militaries have established a regular exchange mechanism through the series of joint trainings, and the experience accumulated from the previous two trainings has laid the foundation for this one. For Indonesia, participating in the joint training helps improve the army's counter-terrorism and mountain warfare capabilities; for China, it is a practical step in deepening defense cooperation with ASEAN countries. The specific schedule and scale of participating troops were not detailed in the announcement, and further training updates may be released through the two sides' official channels.
