World Rafting Championships Open in Alumine on October 26: 80 Teams Compete Across Four Categories

On October 26, the World Rafting Championships officially kicked off in Alumine, in Argentine Patagonia, with 80 teams from around the world competing on the clear waters of the Alumine River. The competition has four categories - men's, women's, mixed and para-rafting - and the athletes will vie for world championship titles over the coming schedule. The opening ceremony was held on the riverbank, with an atmosphere blending sports, nature and culture. Alumine is located in the north of Neuquen Province and is a famous whitewater area in Patagonia, known for its turbulent currents and pristine terrain, posing a stern test of athletes' technique, physical strength and teamwork. The World Rafting Federation said this event is not only a competition but also aims to promote river conservation and outdoor sports culture, letting more people learn about Patagonia's natural resources. Argentina, as host, sent multiple teams, and the home athletes' performance is eagerly awaited by local spectators. In recent years, Argentina has continuously used hosting international outdoor events to boost local tourism, with hotels, catering and guide services all benefiting. For Neuquen Province, this championship is both a sporting gala and a window to show the world Patagonia's landscapes and culture. The organizing committee reminded spectators that mountain weather is changeable, and those going to the riverbank to watch should heed safety notices issued by officials and not enter unopened waters on their own.
