Utopia of the Seas Diverted to Cozumel on October 26: Bahamas Weather Forces Cruise Itinerary Change

Monday, October 26, 2026 · World · GSM News

On Monday, October 26, Royal Caribbean's Utopia of the Seas departed Port Canaveral, Florida, as scheduled, but its destination was no longer the originally planned Bahamas; instead it was changed to Cozumel, Mexico. The cruise line notified booked guests on Sunday, October 25, the day before departure, that because a weather system expected to affect the Bahamas would bring unfavourable conditions, the itinerary had been adjusted: the ship will call at Cozumel on Wednesday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with Tuesday and Thursday becoming sea days. Under the original plan, the ship was to call at Nassau on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and at Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas on Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; both calls have now been cancelled and replaced with sea days. The departure time is unchanged, still 4 p.m. on the 26th, and the return to the Florida home port is also unchanged, expected at around 7 a.m. on Friday, October 30. The cruise line said prepaid Bahamas shore excursions will be automatically cancelled and refunded to guests' onboard accounts. Cozumel is one of the most established cruise ports on Mexico's Caribbean coast, known for coral reef diving and Maya ruins, so guests diverted at short notice still have plenty of shore options. Industry insiders note that Caribbean weather in autumn is changeable and last-minute cruise diversions are not uncommon; travellers should watch for cruise line notifications before departure and build flexibility into their plans.
