Lisbon Metro Strike Notice Checked on October 26: Morning Travel on October 28 and 30 May Be Affected

Monday, October 26, 2026 · World · GSM News

According to an official notice checked on October 26, travellers planning to visit Lisbon on October 28 and 30 should watch for the impact of a metro strike. The strike notice issued by the Lisbon Metro company shows that from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. on October 28, and from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. on October 30, metro services may be disrupted. This time window has drawn particular attention because the British cruise ship Ventura is scheduled to arrive in Lisbon at 7 a.m. on October 28, right within the strike period, so cruise passengers' onward city transport after disembarking may need to switch to other modes. The ship is on a seven-night round-trip sailing from Southampton from October 24 to 31, with Lisbon on day five of the voyage. The cruise line's published passenger capacity is 3,086, but that does not equal the actual number of passengers on this sailing. It should be stressed that a strike notice means “services may be reduced”, not “city-wide transport paralysis”: travellers can still choose taxis, ride-hailing and buses as alternatives, but capacity may be tight during the morning peak, so allowing more generous time is advisable. For independent travellers, downloading the Lisbon Metro company's official notices in advance and confirming alternative routes between hotel and attractions is the most effective way to avoid a disrupted itinerary. Striking is a right Portuguese workers enjoy by law, and before expressing dissatisfaction travellers should also understand the background of the local labour dispute.
