On Monday, October 26, the Spain–Bangladesh Expo 2026 opened in Seville, bringing together business leaders, policymakers and industry representatives from both countries to discuss how to expand bilateral trade, attract investment and strengthen business cooperation. This year's expo is hosted by the Spain-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and supported by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Madrid, with key sectors including garments, leather, footwear and other export-oriented industries. The one-day expo was held at the Hotel Sevilla Center in central Seville from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with business booths for Bangladeshi and Spanish companies on site and business-to-business matchmaking arranged to help entrepreneurs from both countries make connections. Bangladesh's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obeid Islam, will attend as chief guest, underscoring Dhaka's willingness to strengthen economic diplomacy and expand commercial dealings with European partners. Before the opening, the Minister of State was also scheduled to visit the Provincial Council of Seville at 9 a.m. and pay a courtesy call on its president, Javier Fernández de los Ríos; booth visits and opening activities begin at 10 a.m., with the formal opening ceremony set for noon, and officials including Bangladesh's ambassador to Spain, Masudur Rahman, will also attend. For Spanish companies, Bangladesh is an important supplier of textiles and leather; for Bangladeshi companies, Spain is an important gateway into the European market, and the space for cooperation between the two sides is worth looking forward to.
