Boston City Hall to Process Early Voting Ballots Starting October 26

Monday, October 26, 2026 · City · GSM News

The City of Boston announced that City Hall will process early voting ballots on October 26 and 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day, in Room 801 of City Hall. According to the city's announcement issued on October 22, during this period staff will extract early voting ballots from their envelopes and feed them into tabulators; processing will continue until voting ends on Election Day, November 3, with processing hours from October 28 to November 2 also 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Election Day itself from 8 a.m. until all ballots are processed. The announcement makes clear that this central processing covers ballots from all voting precincts in wards 1 to 22 across the city, and ballots that cannot be processed during this period will be sent back to their respective precincts for processing. The entire process is open to public observation, and the city also provides free interpretation, translation and accessibility services, which residents who need them can request from the elections department. The city reminded residents that the above schedule may be adjusted as needs require. Processing early voting ballots in advance does not mean results are announced early; its purpose is to allow counting to be completed faster after voting ends on Election Day. For residents concerned about the progress of counting, October 26 is the first public window to walk into City Hall and observe the procedure in person.
