Din Tai Fung Reportedly Coming to an Upscale Houston District: State Filing Shows a Nearly 16,800-Square-Foot Store Near the Galleria in Preparation

Monday, October 26, 2026 · Society · GSM News

Local Houston media recently reported that Din Tai Fung, the world-renowned xiaolongbao chain, may open a Houston location in the upscale Galleria shopping district. According to a filing on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation website, the new Din Tai Fung store would replace the Japanese restaurant Nobu and an adjacent unit, totaling nearly 16,800 square feet, with construction expected to start in February 2027 and finish in mid-June of the same year, at an estimated cost of $1 million. The report also cautioned that a state filing is a preliminary document and does not necessarily mean a lease has been signed, and that timing and costs could change; Nobu's Houston restaurant is still operating and has not announced any closure. Founded in Taipei in 1958, Din Tai Fung began as a cooking-oil shop before becoming world-famous for its xiaolongbao; it now has more than 165 locations worldwide, with U.S. stores in places including Los Angeles, Seattle, Las Vegas and New York, four of which hold Michelin Bib Gourmand recommendations. For Chinese diners in Houston, if Din Tai Fung really does land at the Galleria, it will be a major event on the local Chinese-food map.
