Austin's Persian Autumn Festival Mehregan on October 25: Asian American Resource Center Hosts Free Celebration of Love and Gratitude

On October 25, Austin's Asian American Resource Center hosted a celebration of Mehregan, the Persian autumn festival, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with free admission. Mehregan is an ancient Persian festival celebrating love, friendship, kindness, gratitude and reunion; the day's event was designed for the whole family, with live Persian music, traditional and contemporary performances, Persian food and sweets, art displays, local vendors and cultural experiences for all ages. The venue, the Asian American Resource Center, is itself a public space shared by Austin's Asian American and multicultural communities; the Persian community celebrates its traditional festival there while opening the door to neighbors of other ethnicities. For Austin residents it was a ticket-free Sunday-afternoon outing: hear some Persian music, taste a dessert, join cultural activities with the kids, and get to know a community they rarely cross paths with. The organizer positioned the event as a joyful, family-friendly gathering, emphasizing the festival's original meaning — people coming together.
