Denver Symphony's 'Firebird' Sunday Matinee on October 25: Dance and Orchestra Perform Stravinsky Together

Monday, October 26, 2026 · Performance · GSM News

At 1 p.m. on October 25, the Colorado Symphony and the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance company jointly performed The Firebird at Denver's Boettcher Concert Hall, the Sunday matinee of the program's October 23-25 run. Stravinsky's The Firebird is based on a Russian folktale about a prince and a firebird, with brilliant colors and dramatic rhythmic swings; paired with the dance company's live performance, it made for a show strong in both sight and sound. The same program also included works by John Williams and Elgar, balancing familiar melodies with classical weight. The Sunday matinee timing is especially friendly to families and daytime audiences — no need to wait until evening to enter the concert hall. For Denver residents, it was also the heaviestweight event on the Denver Performing Arts Complex's weekend schedule: the collaboration between the symphony and a local dance company turned a century-old classic into a live experience the whole family could share on a Sunday afternoon.
