Pittsburgh South Park 5K Run on October 25: Proceeds Support the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank's South Park 5K run took place on October 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at South Park, 250 Maple Springs Drive in South Park Township, and participants could register through the food bank's website. The event is a fall charity run on the food bank's community-events calendar, with proceeds supporting food assistance work in the southwestern Pittsburgh region. The food bank noted that 1 in 8 residents of southwestern Pennsylvania faces food insecurity, and that Hunger Action Month in September, just past, was meant to raise attention to the issue, with October's charity run continuing that effort. South Park is a familiar outdoor venue for residents of Pittsburgh's southern suburbs, and the 5K course suits runners of all levels. Unlike Pittsburgh's professional games played out of town that day, this event was rooted in the local community, letting participants exercise while directly helping neighbors in need. For residents of Pittsburgh's southern suburbs, it was a simple way to join a charity effort on a Sunday morning, with plenty of time left afterward for the rest of the day's plans.
