Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California — On October 26, Los Angeles city officials released the latest crime statistics at the Van Nuys Community Police Station: compared with October 22, 2022, homicides citywide as of October 22, 2026 were down 47%, or 161 fewer deaths; shooting victims were down 50%, or 573 fewer people. Mayor Karen Bass attended the announcement together with City Council Public Safety Committee Chair John Lee, Councilmember Imelda Padilla and Los Angeles Police Department officials. Over the past year, burglaries in the San Fernando Valley fell 41%, robberies fell 21% and vehicle thefts fell 31%. Lee said in a statement that the progress in the San Fernando Valley is significant, meaning fewer residents becoming victims, and he thanked LAPD officers for their efforts. The city did not release the total number of shooting incidents over the four years, only the number of victims. The announcement came about a week before the November 3 municipal election, in which Bass is seeking re-election against Councilmember Nithya Raman.
