Sacramento Cuts Ribbon on New Signalized Crossing on Jackrabbit Trail, Making the North Natomas Trail Safer

Sacramento, Sacramento County, California — The City of Sacramento announced on October 26 that a new signalized crossing where the Jackrabbit Trail meets Arena Boulevard is officially open; a ribbon-cutting was held that day, attended by Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes and Councilmember Lisa Kaplan, followed by a community bike ride. The Jackrabbit Trail runs about 8 miles along the Natomas East Main Drainage Canal, from Elkhorn Boulevard in the north to Garden Highway in the south, connecting North Natomas with the American River Parkway and nearby trails. Previously, walkers and cyclists could only cross Arena Boulevard informally through a gap in the median reserved for maintenance vehicles; the new crossing formalizes the crosswalk while preserving the canal maintenance access. Jesse Gorson, a supervising civil engineer with the city's Public Works Department, said the new crossing lets people keep walking or riding across Arena Boulevard with clearer sight lines and greater visibility. Vice Mayor Talamantes said the Jackrabbit Trail connects neighborhoods with the American River Parkway, and the new crossing gives more residents a chance to get out of the house and enjoy the trail.
