Arkansas coach Silverfield talks Missouri rivalry on Oct. 26: past losses won't be used as motivation

Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas — University of Arkansas football head coach Ryan Silverfield said at his weekly press conference on Oct. 26, discussing the rivalry with the University of Missouri, that the team will not use past losses as motivation or change how it prepares. Arkansas hosts No. 23 Missouri at home on Oct. 31, the first meeting this season between the permanent rivals. Silverfield said he has always valued the former players and the history of Arkansas football, but the team has not discussed the recent history with the opponent, and past results have no bearing on the game ahead.
Silverfield also said Arkansas fans hate every opponent, and that he likes that mindset. Missouri has won all of the recent meetings between the teams and has held a clear edge over Arkansas since joining the SEC.
Arkansas is currently 3-4 and badly needs a win to turn its season around; it is 1-3 in the SEC. Besides Missouri, Texas and LSU are also Arkansas' permanent opponents, and the feud with Texas dates back to the Southwest Conference era. Silverfield declined to rank the three rivalries, saying the fans' emotion is itself part of the team.
