Quincy, Illinois Man Matthew Unglesbee Charged With Mailing Hoax Letters Containing an Unknown Substance to Congressional Offices
Quincy, Adams County, Illinois — The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of Illinois announced that Matthew Unglesbee, 36, of Quincy, was arrested on October 25, 2026, by federal authorities following the execution of a federal search warrant. A federal criminal complaint unsealed on October 26 charges him with false information and hoaxes and with mailing threatening communications, alleging he was involved in mailing letters containing unknown substances to congressional offices.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Douglas J. Quivey held an initial appearance on October 26, 2026, and scheduled a detention hearing for October 28, 2026, at 3 p.m. at the federal courthouse in Springfield, Illinois.
