Trump Links Nobel Prize to Norway Remarks at Port Huron Rally: Says He Does Not Want Immigrants From Norway, With No Sign of New Policy

PORT HURON, Michigan — U.S. President Donald Trump said at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday that he does not want immigrants from Norway, because the Nobel Committee, based in Oslo, has not awarded him the Peace Prize. Reuters quoted him as saying: "because I didn't get the Nobel Prize ... So I don't want anybody from Norway."

At the rally, Trump attributed recent unrest in France to immigration and said he would welcome immigrants from some countries, but not from Norway. Reuters reported there was no indication that the Trump administration was adopting new official policy on Norwegian immigrants; Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a representative for the Norwegian Nobel Committee did not immediately return requests for comment outside regular office hours.

Reuters also noted that Norway is among the highest-income countries as measured by GDP per capita, according to International Monetary Fund data, and that Norway's sovereign wealth fund posted a record profit of 1.75 trillion Norwegian crowns, about $184.3 billion, for the first half of 2026. Trump has previously applied the same vulgar term to Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. Earlier this month, Trump called the failure to award him the Nobel Peace Prize an "indelible stain" on Norway. The rally took place ahead of next week's U.S. midterm elections.
