Nova Scotia Expands Mental Health Crisis Response Program to Eastern Health Zone, Training First Responders

The Government of Nova Scotia announced on October 26 that the Crisis Intervention Team model, which offers specialized training to first responders to help them assist Nova Scotians experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis, is expanding to the eastern health zone, which includes Antigonish and Guysborough counties and Cape Breton Island. The announcement was made in Sydney on October 26 by Brian Comer, Minister of Addictions and Mental Health.
The expansion means first responders in the eastern health zone will also have access to the specialized training. Photos accompanying the provincial announcement show attendees including Brian Comer, Minister of Addictions and Mental Health; Dana Pulsifer, Senior Director, Mental Health and Addictions, Nova Scotia Health; Stephen MacKinnon, interim Chief, Cape Breton Regional Police Service; Scott Armstrong, Attorney General and Minister of Justice; and Dianne Timmins, MLA for Victoria-The Lakes.
