Mayor Bass Cites Los Angeles Crime Data: Homicides Down 47%, Shooting Victims Down 50% From 2022

Monday, October 26, 2026 · Society · GSM News

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on October 26 released citywide public safety data showing homicides down 47 percent and shooting victims down 50 percent compared with October 22, 2022, just before she took office. The mayor's office said that amounts to 161 fewer homicides and 573 fewer victims shot.

In the San Fernando Valley, burglaries fell 41 percent, robberies 21 percent and motor vehicle thefts 31 percent. “As Mayor, my number one job is to keep Angelenos safe,” Bass said, announcing the figures at the Van Nuys Community Police Station alongside Councilmembers John Lee and Imelda Padilla. Her office added that the city's unarmed crisis responders have now answered more than 125,000 calls, handling mental-health and other crises without a law-enforcement response.

The mayor's office credited the declines to the administration's public safety strategy, including expanded police deployment, community intervention and crisis-response diversion.
