Three Los Angeles institutions are simultaneously showing solo exhibitions by Compton-born painter Reggie Burrows Hodges this month: “A Theater of Passions” at the Getty Center, “A Theater of Miracles” at the California African American Museum, and “A Theater of Dreams” at Art + Practice, all opened on October 20. The Getty presents five new Hodges works in dialogue with paintings by the Gentileschis, on view through February 28, 2027.

The Getty exhibition is curated by Davide Gasparotto and Bridget R. Cooks. The dialogue works include Orazio Gentileschi's “Lot and His Daughters” (c. 1622) and “Danaë and the Shower of Gold” (1621-1623), and Artemisia Gentileschi's “Lucretia” (c. 1627). Getty Museum director Timothy Potts noted it is the first time the three venues have linked exhibitions around a single artist.

The Getty Center is at 1200 Getty Center Drive; parking is $25, $15 after 3 p.m. and $10 after 6 p.m. A talk with Hodges is scheduled for October 27 at 6:30 p.m. “I never care about what something looks like, only how it feels,” Hodges has said of his work.
