CFTC and NBA Sign MOU to Protect Integrity of Professional Basketball in Prediction Markets

Monday, October 26, 2026 · Finance · GSM News

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced in Washington on October 26 that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Basketball Association (NBA) intended to protect the integrity of professional basketball in prediction markets. Through the MOU, the CFTC and the NBA will better share information by regularly communicating and discussing matters relating to integrity, as well as maintaining fair and transparent prediction markets.

CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig said the signing continues the Commission's commitment to increasing data sharing between the agency and professional sports leagues. He said the NBA joins Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Hockey League (NHL) in taking a responsible step toward protecting sports integrity and market participants from abuses in prediction markets such as insider trading and fraud.

Selig also thanked NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for putting the integrity of professional basketball and America's financial markets first and for working with the CFTC on the MOU. The announcement was issued as CFTC Release No. 9314-26.
