Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced in Austin, Travis County, Texas, on October 26 that $40 million will go to 411 Texas school districts through the Preparing and Retaining Educators through Partnerships (PREP) Program Allotment, to strengthen teacher recruitment, preparation and mentoring. Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said the funding will help districts recruit talented candidates and provide meaningful preparation and mentorship support. The program was established by House Bill 2, passed by the 89th Texas Legislature and signed into law by Abbott in June 2025. The bill provided a record $8.5 billion in new funding for Texas public education.
