Timed to the release of its stop-motion feature Wildwood, LAIKA Studios' "Wildwood: The Exhibition" has opened at the Design Museum in London and runs through January 10, 2027. The free introductory display, on the museum's mezzanine, traces two decades of LAIKA's blend of handcraft and cutting-edge technology through the making of the new film.

The display includes a puppet from each of LAIKA's earlier BAFTA- and Oscar-nominated films, behind-the-scenes photography and early concept art. Its highlight is an original puppet from 2009's Coraline, shown with its interchangeable faces — a direct look at how stop-motion animation is built frame by frame. The main space features a large-scale installation inspired by the film's "Impassable Wilderness." The production itself used roughly 230 practical puppets across 136 locations, LAIKA's largest undertaking to date.

"Wildwood represents everything LAIKA believes animation can be: emotionally resonant, visually ambitious and made by artists, craftspeople and technical innovators working at the highest level," said David Burke, LAIKA's chief marketing and operations officer. The London show is a separate exhibition from the LAIKA display opening at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles this December.
