RIVERSIDE COUNTY, California — Early in-person voting for the November 3 general election began Saturday in Riverside County, as the Registrar of Voters opened 21 vote centers across the county. Another 131 centers are scheduled to open on October 31, bringing the countywide total to 152.

The centers, listed at voteinfo.net, provide Dominion touchscreen electronic voting machines that registered voters can use instead of filling out paper vote-by-mail ballots; voters may also mark a paper ballot and cast it directly into a ballot box. Most centers are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 100 secure ballot drop boxes have been available throughout the county since the beginning of October.

The registrar's office earlier sent 1.4 million vote-by-mail ballots to the U.S. Postal Service. Two 24-hour drop boxes stand outside the registrar's office at 2720 and 2724 Gateway Drive in Riverside, and early voting at the office has run since October 5, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the office will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received no later than seven days after Election Day, November 10.

Riverside County has approximately 1.43 million registered voters, and turnout in the June primary was 38 percent, according to the registrar. Residents can check eligibility and register at registertovote.ca.gov or request a paper application by calling (951) 486-7200.
