LA Phil November 13 and 15: Jukka-Pekka Saraste Leads Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony

The Los Angeles Philharmonic performs two concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall on November 13 and 15, 2026, with Finnish conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste on the podium. Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 crowns a program that also features American composer Billy Childs's saxophone concerto Diaspora, written for soloist Steven Banks.
Performances: Friday, November 13, 2026 at 8:00 PM, and Sunday, November 15 at 2:00 PM. Venue: Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90012, in downtown Los Angeles.
The program opens with Sibelius's tone poem The Bard (about 7 minutes), followed by Billy Childs's Diaspora, a concerto for saxophone and orchestra (about 25 minutes) composed for Steven Banks. Its three movements, "Motherland," "If We Must Die," and "And Still I Rise," are guided by the poetry of Maya Angelou, Claude McKay, and Nayyirah Waheed; Childs describes the piece as "sifted through the prism of my own experience as a Black man in America." Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony (about 44 minutes) closes the program; the composer identified its driving force as Fate.
Tickets (this is a ticketed event) are available through the LA Phil's official box office on the event page at laphil.com, with prices shown live on the official ticketing page.
