New York Man Curtis Jackson Sentenced to Five Years in Nationwide Bank Fraud and Mail Theft Ring

The Department of Justice announced that Curtis Jackson, 31, of Staten Island, New York, was sentenced in the Southern District of Alabama to 60 months in federal prison for his role in a nationwide mail theft and bank fraud conspiracy. Prosecutors said that from February 2023 to June 2024, Jackson conspired with LaEric Marques Williams-Beverly of Mobile, Alabama, and others to steal and counterfeit checks bearing the information of identity-theft victims.
Investigators found that the pair administered a Telegram channel called "House of Pain & Drank," through which they sold millions of dollars' worth of stolen financial instruments. In January 2024, video showed Williams-Beverly stealing checks from the mailbox of a Mobile business, and ATM footage captured fraudulent deposits. The NYPD arrested Jackson in New York City carrying a counterfeited check for $43,686.45 drawn on that business's account, and his iCloud account held images of stolen and counterfeit checks, including a Citibank deposit slip for a $62,673.46 check. A June 2024 search of Williams-Beverly's Mobile home seized stolen mail, counterfeit checks, other people's debit and credit cards, check-counterfeiting tools, and two pistols.
U.S. District Judge Kristi K. DuBose noted Jackson's prior state arrests and convictions for theft, larceny, forged instruments, drugs, and bail jumping. He will serve five years of supervised release with drug testing and credit restrictions after prison; no fine was imposed, but he must pay $13,041.52 in restitution, jointly and severally, plus a $100 special assessment. Williams-Beverly was previously sentenced to 120 months.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the U.S. Secret Service, the ATF, and the Mobile Police Department, with assistance from the NYPD, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller. U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello announced the sentence.
